Anyone with a desire to spend a week on whitewater learning about hydrology, trip dynamics, outdoor leadership and the technical skills necessary to navigate a raft through Class II, III and IV whitewater. This is a very popular training program for those interested in becoming river guides or those interested in brushing up on their whitewater skills.

USA Raft Guide School Includes 2012 Guide Training Application

5 days of training: mix of on the water (French Broad & Nolichucky Rivers), and classroom.
6:1 trainer to trainee ratio.
Dinner on day of arrival, and lunch each day.
Lodging is available at the Nolichucky Outpost. No Pets Allowed.
All Equipment (rafts, paddles, life jackets, helmets, wetsuits and river shuttles).
Certificate of Completion.
Course fee is $450

Raft Guide School Registration

You are to arrive ready to get wet every day at 8am. Some classroom time each morning and then off to the boat barn to load equipment for the day's river trip. You could have two trips in one day. This is intense training and not for everyone. Completion of the course does NOT mean employment with USA Raft or Mountain River Guides. However, it will give you an advantage if we do hire guides for the 2012 season.

USA Raft is recognized as a leading whitewater rafting outfitter in the southeast. Our comprehensive whitewater rafting guide training schools are taught by our senior trip leaders.

2012 USA Raft Guide School Dates (sign up for one class)

Class 1 March 11-16

Class 2 March 18-23

Class 3 May 6-11

Class 4 May 20-25

***First Aid/CPR not included but will be offered for an additional $60.

Class is split between the French Broad & Nolichucky Rivers with lodging on the Nolichucky River.***

Minimum Qualifications for Raft Guide School

Raft Guide School applicants must be 19+ years old, physically fit, and be eligible to work in the United States without USA Raft Mountain River Guides sponsorship.

It's hard work at times. It's rewarding in many ways. It's a lot of fun most of the time.

Raft Guide Training is Unpaid. Participants are not employees.

To apply, fill out the Raft Guide School Registration downloaded from our website and mail it together with a check or credit card information. Applications are processed in the order in which they are received. Although there is no final deadline for accepting applications, we encourage early application, as space is limited.
